Texas Tech Board of Regents announce promotions for CASNR faculty members
The Texas Tech University System Board of Regents approved the academic advancement of eight leading College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources faculty members during their latest meeting (Mar. 6).
Among those receiving a promotion in academic rank are:
- Todd Brashears, associate professor to professor, Department of Agricultural Education and Communication
- Chance Brooks, associate professor to professor, Department of Animal and Food Sciences.
Those receiving tenure and promotion are:
- Erica Irlbeck, assistant professor to associate professor, Department of Agricultural Education and Communications
- Shaikh Rahman, assistant professor to associate professor, Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics
- Ryan Rathmann, assistant professor to associate professor, Department of Animal and Food Sciences
- Glen Ritchie, assistant professor to associate professor, Department of Plant and Soil Science
- Rudolph Ritz, assistant professor to associate professor, Department of Agricultural Education and Communications
- Jyotsna Sharma, assistant professor to associate professor, Department of Plant and Soil Science.
These individuals bring the number of full-time tenured faculty at Tech to 813. There are a total of 1,099 tenured and tenure-track faculty at the university. After these appointments, the percentage of tenure track faculty who have been awarded tenure will be 73.9 percent.
In other action, the Board of Regents announced that longtime Department of Plant and Soil Science leader Richard Zartman has been selected for faculty emeritus status. Emeritus appointments are honorary and are given at retirement and are intended to recognize long and faithful service, or distinguished service to the university.
Zartman served as chairman of the department from 2011-2014. He joined Tech's faculty in 1974 as an assistant professor of soil physics and was named a full professor in 1991. He was named associate chair in 1998 and served as interim chairman of the department during the fall of 2000. Awards for Zartman include CASNR's Outstanding Researcher Award (2003, 2006) and Texas Tech President's Excellence in Teaching Award (2001).
