Academic Success: CASNR students honored at summer commencement
More than 1,490 students, including 37 from Texas Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, received diplomas at the university's summer commencement ceremonies on Saturday (Aug. 8) at United Supermarkets Arena.
During the event, outstanding students carried banners representing their respective colleges. Darby O'Shea Sullivan, an agricultural communications major from Canyon, represented CASNR. Administrators selected the banner bearers based on all-around achievement. Sullivan was also the highest ranking August graduate for the college.
Graduation recipients from the individual departments and majors included:
- Agricultural & Applied Economics - 14
- Agricultural Communications - 6
- Animal Science - 8
- Conservation Law Enforcement - 2
- Interdisciplinary Agriculture - 5
- Natural Resources Management - 2
Commencement speaker for the afternoon program was Mark Griffin, president and general counsel of the Griffin Companies. He is a Texas Tech School of Law graduate and former Texas Tech System Board of Regents member. Griffin received his doctor of jurisprudence in 1979 and began working at Hance, Thompson, Thomas and Sawyer, before joining the Griffin Companies. He served on the Texas Tech System Board of Regents from 2005-09.
