GALLERY: Town Hall addresses development of new veterinary school
Texas Tech University System Chancellor Robert Duncan welcomed students, staff, and faculty to the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources' Town Hall Discussion on the Development of a Veterinary School. The event held on Wednesday (Mar. 30) at the Animal and Food Sciences building featured a review of the strengths and the historical place Tech's animal science and health programs hold on the Texas South Plains and Panhandle by Michael Galyean, dean of Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Meanwhile, Duncan, a CASNR graduate himself, laid out the likely legislative path for the veterinary school and a possible timeline for launching the project. Tedd Mitchell, president of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, discussed a program that emphasized a rural health care track and lowered educational costs as a possible model for the new school. Other Tech leaders on hand included Texas Tech Interim President John Opperman, Lawrence Schovanec, Texas Tech Provost and Senior Vice President, and Michael Orth, chairman of Tech's Department of Animal and Food Sciences.
