Board of Regents announce promotions for two CASNR faculty members
The Texas Tech University System Board of Regents approved the academic advancement of two leading College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources faculty members during their latest meeting (Feb. 23).
Among those receiving a promotion in academic rank (effective Sept. 1) are:• Sam Jackson, associate professor to professor, Department of Animal and Food Sciences. The Stephenville native serves as coordinator of undergraduate advising, supervises the wool judging team, and teaches equine nutrition, introductory animal science, live animal evaluation, and sheep and goat production. His specialty is sheep production and growth and development of farm animals. Jackson received his bachelor's degree in animal production from Texas Tech. His master's degree in physiology of reproduction is from Texas A&M University. His doctorate in animal science is from Texas Tech.• Ryan Williams, assistant professor to associate professor with tenure, Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics. The California native's research has focused in the fields of environmental and resource economics, and the application of discrete choice methods. Other areas of interest include the water-energy nexus, valuing environmental attributes, and understanding how consumers respond to eco-labeling. He received his bachelor's degree in economics from Emory University and his doctorate in economics from Texas Tech.
In other action, the Board of Regents announced that longtime Department of Landscape Architecture leader Alon Kvashny has been selected for faculty emeritus status. Emeritus appointments are honorary and are given at retirement and are intended to recognize long and faithful service, or distinguished service to the university. Kvashny, who joined the Texas Tech faculty in 2000, served as department chairman for 13 years.
Kvashny received his bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia and master's degree from the University of Michigan. His doctorate is from West Virginia University. He is a registered landscape architect in Israel and Texas.
Separately, two CASNR faculty members were approved for a faculty development leave during the 2017-18 academic year. They are Gad Perry, a professor of conservation biology, and Kerry Griffis-Kyle, an associate professor of wetland ecology and director of the professional science master's track, in Department of Natural Resources Management.
