CASNR students take high honors at graduate research poster competition

Five students from Texas Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources took top honors at the Texas Tech University Graduate School's 17th Annual Poster Competition on Tuesday (Apr. 10) at the Overton Hotel and Conference Center in Lubbock. The competition is seen as a professional development opportunity for students as they present their work to people who are not in their field of study.
Animal & Food Science
• First Place: Alexander Branson, a master's student from Lubbock; Poster Title: Short Term Dynamic Fluid Environment Exposure as a Promoter of Embryo Development; Advisor: Samuel Prien, professor of reproductive physiology-assisted reproduction with Tech's Department
of Animal and Food Sciences
• Runner Up: Ilan Arvelo-Yagua, a doctoral student from Punto Fijo, Venezuela; Poster Title: Evaluation of Salmonella and Listeria Biofilm Formation and Interventions in Meat
and Poultry Processing Environments with a Drip Flow Reactor; Advisor: Marcos Sanchez, an associate professor of food security with Tech's Department of Animal and Food

Natural Resources Management
• First Place: Niwanthi Dissanayake Ralalage, a doctoral student from Sri Lanka; Poster Title: Ionic liquids as solvents for cotton cellulose-Cation effect; Advisor: Noureddine Abidi, the Leidigh Associate Professor with Tech's Department of Plant and Soil Science
• Runner Up: Katelyn Vedolich, a master's student from Sterling Heights, Michigan; Poster title: Modeling the Effects of Environmental Predictors on Small Mammal Assemblage Structure
in an Isolated Rangeland Site; Advisor: Kerry Griffis-Kyle, an associate professor of wetland ecology with Tech's Department of Natural Resources

• First Place: Jaspreet Kaur, a doctoral student from India; Poster Title: Interaction between root and soil orchid mycorrhizal communities shape the demography
of a rare orchid; Advisor: Jyotsna Sharma, an associate professor of plant ecology and conservation with Tech's Department
