Why choose Texas Tech's School of Art?

At the School of Art (SOA), we recognize that artists today are not just makers of images and objects, but – more importantly – cultural producers, trend-setters, activists, and leaders, who use art to shape a global conversation on the world we live in. Here at the SOA, making and thinking as inseparable (learn to move freely between courses in art history and theory, and studio production). You will be encouraged to cross artistic disciplines, to experiment with new media and techniques, and to infuse your art with history and theory. Exhibition opportunities allow you to present your work long before you graduate. Your greatest challenge will be to find and develop your artistic voice – one that can transform complex ideas and experiences into rich and vivid forms. Come here for that world of possibility.

Procedure for applying to graduate programs (FINE ARTS PHD, STUDIO ART MFA, MA ART HISTORY, and MASTER OF ART EDUCATION) in the School of Art:

  • Go to Graduate Programs and click on "domestic" or "international" to apply to the graduate school. Complete the application via "ApplyTexas" (you will be sent an email after completion of the application, to set up your eRaider account).
  •  After that application is complete, go back to Graduate Programs, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the appropriate graduate program.  Click on the "Departmental Questionnaire" link, fill out the writeable PDF, and save it on your computer.
  • Go to SlideRoom and apply to the appropriate program. Take a screenshot of the final page, as proof of completion of the application
  •  Once you have set up your eRaider account, go back to Graduate Programs and upload the following documents onto the "Applicant File Upload Portal":  - Email addresses of recommenders  - Screen shot from the finished Slideroom application  - Resumé  - Departmental questionnaire  - Unofficial college transcript(s)  - Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL score) (if necessary)

Once all of your documents are uploaded, you will see a green banner that confirms completion. An email will be sent to your eRaider account informing you about the process for checking your application status.
