Texas Tech School of Art Hosts Spring Open House
The 3rd Annual Community Open House will be held throughout the three buildings used by the School of Art – the Art Building, Architecture Building, and the 3D Art Annex. Activities include demonstrations and workshops, studio and facilities tours, portfolio views and reviews, art club sales and art exhibits. High school students are encouraged to attend and have their portfolio reviewed by Texas Tech Art Faculty, please contact Ryan Scheckel, Academic Advisor, at (806) 742-3825, for more information about the portfolio review.
The Art Building is located at 2802 18th Street (near the corner of 18th Street and Flint Avenue, just east of the Architecture Building on the Texas Tech campus). Monday through Friday, visitor parking is available in the small lot adjacent the Art Building or on the Fourth Floor of the Flint Avenue Parking Garage for $1.20 per hour. All events are free and open to the public.

High School Portfolio Review … Architecture 301
High School Students at any level are invited to show their portfolio to Texas Tech Faculty and learn about our degree programs: Studio Art, Art History, Visual Studies and Communication Design. Entering Student Scholarships will be available for awarding on-site. Students will also be able to apply for credit by exam (Advanced Placement) at the review. Art Club Sales … Art Building and 3D Annex
Come and shop for student produced ceramics, jewelry, original prints, original photos and unique t-shirt and button designs. Located throughout both the Art Building and 3D Annex. Remember to visit the Tech Art History Society’s Silent Auction in the Main Foyer, bidding closes at 3:30 p.m.
Graduate Studio Visits … Art Building, Architecture Building and 3D Annex
Graduate students will host open studios for the community. Come and visit with our graduate students about their work and learn about our degree program.
Studio and Communication Design Portfolio Viewing … 3D Annex
Opportunity for students to meet their colleagues and for the community to meet our undergraduate and graduate students. Ceramics, Jewelry & Metalsmithing, Sculpture, Photography, Printmaking, and Painting students will have work on display.
Art History and Study Abroad Presentation … Room B01, Art Building
Art History Students will present short papers on their research and on Tech’s Study Abroad experience in Seville, Spain. They will answer any questions that students or teachers have about the field and Seville.
Art Display from Bean Elementary … outside Room B12, Art Building
Bean Elementary, under the direction of Kay Wagon-Holder and Israel Romero, will have artwork on display in the Visual Studies Area. Wagnon-Holder is a TTU alumnus and Romero is a Tech student who is currently student teaching at Bean.
Batik and Tie Dye Workshops … Room B14, Art Building
Participate in batik and tie dye workshops led by Visual Studies faculty and students.
Papermaking Workshop and Print Sale … Room 107, Art Building
The Tech Print Club and the Printmaking Area are hosting a papermaking workshop. Come and make paper, tour the printmaking facilities, and browse student and faculty prints for sale. Then come back and get your paper!
Ceramics Tours and Demonstrations … 3D Art Annex
Associate Professors Juan Granados, Von Venhuizen and the ceramics students of TTU will be giving tours of the new ceramics facility, and will also be demonstrating ceramic processes and techniques. They will answer any questions that students or teachers have about the field.
Jewelry and Metalsmithing Tours and Demonstrations … 3D Art Annex
Professor Rob Glover and the metals students of TTU will be giving tours of the new metals facility and demonstrating the newly acquired computer aided design (CAD) software and milling machine specially designed to make jewelry. They will answer any questions that students or teachers have about the field.
Aluminum Casting Demonstration … 1:30 p.m., Foundry Facility, Art Building
The Advanced Sculpture Class under the direction of professor William Cannings will be conducting an aluminum foundry pour. This lost-wax method of casting has been used for hundreds of years. 1300 degrees of molten fun. Please stop by, watch and ask questions.
