School of Art
The School is NASAD accredited and offers the B.A. in Art History, the B.F.A. in Studio Art, Design Communication, and Visual Studies (teacher certification), the M.A.E, the M.F.A in Studio Art and the Ph.D. in Fine Arts with a major in Art termed “Critical Studies and Artistic Practice.” A faculty of 29 full-time professors serves approximately 350 undergraduate students and 50 students involved in graduate study. Technical and secretarial support includes a total of 15 staff positions. The School’s Visual Resource Center maintains basic reference books, instructional media, a collection of 140,000 slides, and digital classrooms; a digitized image collection is under development. Texas Tech subscribes to ARTstor. The program also supports the Landmark Arts Galleries and the Standing Room Only Gallery (SRO). For more information, see: http://www.art.ttu.edu.
The University
Established in 1923, Texas Tech is one of the youngest major research institutions in the country and one of four major comprehensive universities in the state. The 1,839-acre Spanish Renaissance style campus serves approximately 29,000 students and hosts one of 10 best campus public art collections in the nation (Public Art Review, 2006). The Graduate School enrolls over 4,000 students in nearly 100 different master’s programs and some 50 doctoral programs. The Graduate School strives to maintain flexibility through a combination of options from the traditional degree programs to interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary choices.
