Rebecca Drolen :: Hair Pieces
September 24 – October 21, 2012
Rebecca Drolen’s series, Hair Pieces, explores the opposition of desire and shame in connection to body hair. Drolen constructs imagery that confronts the beautiful alongside the grotesque, investigating the systems that guide ideas and self-image in relation to body hair. As self-portraits, the images construct visual puns through the interaction of the human body, the hair, and the ordinary and unexpected tools used to manipulate it.
Currently an Assistant Professor at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Rebecca Drolen holds an MFA from Indiana University, Bloomington, and exhibits nationally.
Exhibitions and visiting speakers programs at the School of Art are supported by generous grants from the Helen Jones Foundation and The CH Foundation, both of Lubbock. Additional support comes from Cultural Activities Fees administered through the College of Visual & Performing Arts.
