Daniel Manning Pope Jr: Post-Capitalist Landscapes
SRO Photo Gallery, January 16-February 23, 2020
The photographs in the series Post-Capitalist Landscapes by Manning Pope were taken in spaces shared by the American populace that often go unrecognized due to their banal appearance. Pope finds that the only things that are shared among the working classes are these utilitarian commercial spaces that are passed by them daily. By photographing these spaces at night Pope accomplishes two things; first to document the spaces without the distraction of individuals utilizing the spaces, and secondly he captures the unique lighting and aesthetic of these structures.
Manning Pope has a BFA in photography from the University of North Texas. He served as an Art Fellow for the Charles Adams Studio Project in Lubbock, Texas during summer 2019. He currently lives and works in Denver, Colorado.
