The Western Literature Association (WLA) will hold its 47th Annual Conference at Lubbock's Overton Hotel Nov. 7-10.Texas Tech University Associate English Professor Sara Spurgeon is WLA President and spearheaded the effort to hold the convention in Lubbock.

  • Plenary and book signing with Annette Kolodny ("In Search of First Contact")
  • David Sherman to screen his film "Wasteland Utopias," presented in collaboration with Landmark Arts in the Texas Tech School of Arts
  • Reception at the Landmark Gallery for the opening of "JUST NOT YET: Dodging the Vacuum of Meaning," curated in conjunction with the WLA conference, featuring 20 visionary artists working in the US Southwest
