As part of its groundbreaking Unmasking Innovation campaign, the Texas Tech University College of Arts & Sciences will host a benefit this spring featuring a former Texas Governor-turned-U.S. President.

"The College of Arts & Sciences is thrilled to gather our alumni and friends for the first major evening event held by the college in our 93-year history," said W. Brent Lindquist, Dean of the College. "We are incredibly honored to have former President George W. Bush serve as our keynote speaker for this special evening. His passion for the people of West Texas, his liberal arts education and the experiences he will share from his time as Governor of Texas and President of the United States will make this an unforgettable night for everyone in attendance."

Titled "Unmasking Innovation: An Evening with President George W. Bush," the dinner event is scheduled for 6 p.m. April 26, 2018, at the Hyatt Regency in Dallas.

"We are excited to have the opportunity to hear from President Bush as we host friends and alumni at the College of Arts and Sciences campaign event," said Lawrence Schovanec, Texas Tech president. "During his time in office, President Bush introduced and championed efforts to improve access and accountability in education, including increased funding to Hispanic Serving Institutions, a distinction which Texas Tech recently qualified. His support of higher education nationally was preceded by his commitment to state colleges and universities during his time as governor of Texas."

With just under 11,000 students enrolled, the College of Arts & Sciences shoulders a large responsibility in terms of both research and education. At some point, every single student at Texas Tech will pass through the college as they take core classes needed to complete their major. Here, they are able to enhance their global understanding as well as sharpen their critical-thinking and reasoning skills.

As Texas Tech strives to become a nationally renowned research institution, a significant portion of that research will happen within Arts & Sciences. Fundraising support generated from this event, and future events like it, are critical as the university grows its national profile and creates opportunities for research, education and discovery.
