Health, Exercise & Sport Sciences Personnel Train Over 200 Ugandan Soccer Coaches with State Department Grant |

This past May, HESS Assistant Professor Jens Omli, TTU graduate student Lisa Berg and undergraduate student Michael Esch, and four additional instructors provided training for 200 Ugandan Soccer Coaches (114 men, 86 women) as part of the “International Sport Connection” program, which was funded by the SportsUnited Division of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

A&S Faculty are Part of the Collaborative South Central Climate Science Consortium, and Are Determined to Make a Substantial Contribution to Climate Research |

Texas Tech University will play a leadership role in a consortium of universities, tribal nations and regional partners that will make up the newly formed South-Central Climate Science Center. The center encompasses Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico and will partner with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to address regional climate change challenges.

Alumni Spotlight: Gertrude and Lon Miller |
|
Gertrude (1965, B.S., Education; 1969, M.Ed., Counseling) and Lon Miller (1971, B.A., Philosophy; minor, English) attribute much of their professional success and global perspective to the gratifying educational experiences in the College of Arts and Sciences.
A native of Odessa, Gertrude transferred from a hometown college to study education, which was then offered in the College of Arts and Sciences.

“Twopeat!” Department of Biological Sciences Student Organization Receives Top Honors Two Years in a Row |

For the second year in a row, the Department of Biological Sciences (DBS) graduate student organization TTUAB- Texas Tech University Association of Biologists, received the Texas Tech University Student Union and Activities award for “Organization of the Year.” This award comes on the heels of TTUAB’s hosting of the Second Annual TTABSS (Texas Tech Annual Biological Sciences Symposium), a regional showcase for research pertaining to biological sciences.

Eye-Tracking Devices Help the Disabled Use Computers |

If necessity is the mother of invention, researchers at Texas Tech’s Usability Research Lab (URL) may have inadvertently given birth to twins.
After several years of research, software writing and prototype creation, researchers have created a device that can track eye movement at a price-point far below the industry standard.
But at the same time, the device can be used to help people with hand-mobility issues use their eyes to move a mouse around the screen.
