Offensive Tackle and Heart and Soul of the Offensive Line

  • Has endured setback after setback (Reed calls a setback “a setup for a comeback”); Overcame a bout with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2003, in which he lost three feet of intestine and underwent rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatments; Broke ankle in closing minutes of Gator Bowl on January 1, 2008, and spent the spring and summer rehabbing to get back on the field
  • Former pitcher in the White Sox organization
  • Holds the school record with a 625-pound bench press (summer 2008)
  • Limited NFL No. 2 pick Chris Long of Virginia to three tackles and no sacks in the game
  • Has been dominant this season on an offensive line that has yielded only one sack in 159 pass attempts
  • Instrumental in running game that is flourishing at 135.7 yards per game and leads Tech scoring with nine touchdowns on the ground

  • Emerged midway through 2007 season as the starter and has held onto the position
  • Quick for his size
  • Protects the quarterbacks face, while Reed has the QB’s back
  • Tremendous upper body strength keeps even the best defensive ends at bay
