Nursing Student at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center

My mom and sister were inspirations for me wanting to be a nurse, and after doing some research on my own, I realized that nursing was right for me. My sister went to TTUHSC and the program is very well known, so I decided to apply there. And I'm really glad I did. I'm very excited about everything I'm going to learn there. We'll be going at a fast pace and learn things in big chunks, but I'm always open to learning new things.

My experience at the UCC was amazing and so helpful! I could feel and see how they genuinely wanted to help me and see me succeed. I went to two mock interviews and Dominique taught me tips and techniques that helped me remember that the interview is just a conversation. After going over everything we talked about in my mock interviews, I went to my actual interview and felt confident. After the interview was over, I immediately knew that I was getting in! Last semester, which was the first time I applied, I didn't go to the UCC like everyone else did. They were all booked up so I couldn't make an appointment, and I also didn't think I would need much help, but I was wrong. I left that interview not feeling good at all, and I knew that I wasn't getting in. But this time, I went to that interview feeling prepared and confident in myself, and left the interview knowing I would get accepted this time.

One thing I learned from the Career Center is that your elevator speech sets the scene for the rest of the interview. You're meeting your interviewers for the first time and these are the first words they'll hear you say, so you have to make sure it speaks about you. So be sure it'll grab their attention so they can remember you among all the other people they'll be interviewing after. You don't want to be just another interview.
