Placement Exams
Chemistry
Any student required to take CHEM 1307 (Principles of Chemistry) must take the Texas Tech University Chemistry Placement Examination (CPE). A score of 50% or higher on the Placement Exam places a student into CHEM 1307. A score less than 50% places a student into the preparatory course, CHEM 1301. Math
University policy states that to be admitted to an entry-level mathematics course (0301-1351, 1420-1430, 1550, 2300, 2322), a student must meet one of the following prerequisites:
- Students who have a sufficiently high SAT Mathematics score (610 or higher) or ACT Mathematics score (26 or higher) may enroll in any of these entry-level courses, except for Calculus I (MATH 1351). Calculus I requires a 660 SAT Mathematics score or ACT Mathematics score of 29 or higher.
- Students who have collegiate credit for the appropriate prerequisite course from an accredited community college, junior college or university may enroll in the sequelled entry-level mathematics course.
- Students who satisfactorily pass the Mathematics Placement Examination may enroll in the appropriate entry-level mathematics course.

Foreign Language
Foreign Language Placement Exam is offered throughout the year. Tests evaluate your knowledge of the language and for exam schedules and for more information.
