Do you offer scholarships for all squad members?
Answer: Yes, each squad member meeting requirements
will receive a $1000 scholarship. This scholarship is
awarded in two payments, $500 per semester. Requirements
include, but are not limited to meeting GPA standards, being enrolled
as full time student, and attending games, practices, and
appearances. Out of state students will be awarded the
full $1000 in one award package to waive your Out-of-State
tuition.

Where are auditions held?
Answer:
Auditions are held in the United Spirit Arena
(USA) here on the Tech Campus. The USA is off of
19th Street and Indiana Ave. Auditions will be held on
the main basketball floor. Proper attire is required
during your audition.
Question:
Who can tryout for Tech Pom Squad member?
Answer: Any current Texas Tech student meeting tryout
requirements is eligible to tryout. Incoming Freshman
and Transfer students are welcome to tryout as well, as long
as they have been admitted to TTU. Graduate students
are welcome to tryout as long as they are enrolled in at
least 9 credit course hours.
Students who are accepted into the
Summer Gateway Program are
allowed to tryout, but will not be able to fully participate
until Summer Gateway Program requirements have been met and
they are
enrolled at TTU.
Question:
Does the program compete at Nationals?
Answer: Yes, the Tech
Pom Squad competes at the NDA
Collegiate Cheer & Dance Championship. Competing at
nationals is contingent on squad members fundraising and
success at summer pom camp. The final decision if the
squad competes and who will be in routine will be decided on
by the Head Coach.

About how many people tryout each year?
Answer: Typically, between 50 and 60 females
tryout.
Question:
Are audition sessions open to the public?
Answer: No.
Audition sessions are closed to all
the general public. Participants will check in each
day of auditions. The only portion of the auditions
open to the public is the optional open practice held the
Thursday before auditions.

What type of dance squad and how many are on your squad?
Answer: Texas Tech has one
all female dance squad.
This squad is comprised of up to 16 members. Jazz, Hip
Hop, and Pom routines are styles of dances the squad
performs.

Is there a height and weight requirement?
Answer: No. We do not have a certain weight
and/or height requirement for squad members. We do ask
that all members maintain the appropriate physique, and are
able to participate in all activities throughout the entire
year.

Who coaches the Pom Squad?
Answer:
Stephanie Rhode
is the supervisor of the Spirit Program. The squad is
captain lead with supervision.

Question:
What are practices like and schedule?
Answer: Practices are held
three days a week
for approximately 2 - 2.5 hours throughout the Fall semester and
four days a week during the Spring semesters.
Additional practices may be called to prepare for upcoming
events throughout the year. In addition to these scheduled
practices, the squad practices two weekends during the
summer months, and holiday breaks can be shortened for
additional practices as needed. Pom Squad members are also
asked to workout on their own time developing and perfecting
skills and strength. Practice schedules vary and are
determined by the Head Coach. Each practice includes
stretching techniques, dance exercises, and practicing
routines.

Can I tryout for both Cheerleader and Pom Squad?
Answer: No. Tryouts are held at the same time.
You will need to pick which squad you wish to tryout for.
Question:
What are additional benefits for being a Texas Tech Pom
Squad member?
Answer: In addition to the scholarship awarded, all
uniform and accessories are paid for by the University. We cover all
out-of-town game travel
costs and provide academic tutoring services as well.
An on-campus meal plan is also available to squad members.
Squad members are asked to fundraise for the national
competition.
