Research Interests

Timothy A. Wood has been with Texas Tech University since 2003. In 2006, he completed his Bachelors of Science in engineering physics with a focus in structures. Then, he continued his studies at the graduate level and received his Master of Science in civil engineering in 2009. While pursuing his graduate degree, Timothy joined the Center for Multidisciplinary Research in Transportation (TechMRT) as a full-time researcher. This provided him with an opportunity to participate in many TxDOT-sponsored research projects involving design and performance of earth retaining walls and reinforced concrete box culverts. Timothy has designed and managed large-scale field and lab testing facilities, developed data acquisition systems and data analysis software for both research and production use, and co-written research reports and academic articles. His master's thesis on culvert load rating has been referenced by the AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation, the national standard for bridge inspection and load rating. Since beginning his Ph.D. pursuits in 2012, he has published in the ASCE Journal of Bridge Engineering and the Transportation Research Record. Currently, Timothy Wood is developing data management and analysis software for a TxDOT-sponsored project for load rating 11,000 reinforced concrete box culverts in Texas. He also serves as an instructor for the undergraduate Geotechnical Laboratory. When not working, Timothy, his wife, and two children actively participate in a vibrant, rural church community east of Lubbock.
