Graduate Program Overview
For more information you can e-mail Dr. Rajesh Khare, the graduate advisor for the Department of Chemical Engineering.
Introduction:
The Graduate Program in Texas Tech’s Department of Chemical Engineering is dynamic and internationally visible. The faculty and graduate students carry out federal, state and industrially funded research in diverse fields such as polymers and soft matter, bioengineering, computational materials science, process control and reaction engineering. The programs offer a mix of experimental and theoretical/computational approaches to these subjects. Stipends are available to qualified Ph.D. candidates.
Key Features:
- The department has fifteen faculty members, including the dean of Whitacre College of Engineering, with extensive fundamental and applied research experience that is balanced by strong industrial experiences of several faculty members.
- The department research focus includes polymers/material science, nanotechnology, computational chemical engineering, bioengineering, biofuels, complex fluids, and process control and optimization.
- In fiscal year 2011, the department spent more than $4.4 million to support graduate research projects.
- Texas Tech is located in Lubbock, Texas, which is a growing metropolitan city of more than 200,000 people and is located on top of the caprock on the South Plains of Texas. The city offers an upscale lifestyle that blends well with old fashioned Texas hospitality and Southwestern food and culture.
