International Teaching Assistant Program - General Information
2008 ITA Workshop July 21 - August 8, 2008
Texas Tech University Operating Policy requires that he appointment of international students as teaching assistants be made only after certification of English proficiency and readiness for the classroom. The International Teaching Assistant (ITA) Workshop is conducted each summer to assess and improve the language skills of prospective ITAs. Dates and scheduling for 2008 are being planned; please check this site for more details in early 2008.
Academic departments refer students to the ITA program, which is required of all prospective ITAs. Currently, the program consists of a 3-week summer workshop; three follow-up courses are offered (ESL 5305—Speaking; ESL 5310—Classroom Management; ESL 5315—Academic Writing) for students whose evaluations during the workshop do not qualify them to teach immediately. For information regarding ITA Workshop registration, please contact your department at Texas Tech University. You cannot register yourself for the workshop. Only your TTU graduate advisor may do so.

If you are interested in credit-bearing academic English as a Second Language classes, please contact the department at (806) 742-3145, ext. 288. You must be registered as a student at Texas Tech to be eligible for these classes.
If you are interested in non-credit bearing ESL classes offered through the Intensive English Program of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures, call (806) 742-1549 or visit the website at: http://www.depts.ttu.edu/classic_modern/iep/. You do not have to be registered in the University to take these classes.
