"City, Country, Borders" is a unique summer field course that begins in the heart of Rome, continues to the citadels and countryside around Nafplion, Greece and concludes with an archaeological exploration along the Roman borders in the north of England at Hadrian's Wall. Combining archaeology, literary studies, philosophy and performance with the itinerant craft once prevalent with the Grand Tour, the course will take place over a six-week period during the summer of 2010. The first two weeks were spent with in earshot of the Forum in Rome. Based in the old Venetian and Turkish port town of Nafplion (Greece's first capital), the next two weeks took place at the monumental sites of Mycenae, Argos, Epidauros and Corinth along with the forgotten places and paths associated with the Greek Countryside. Finally, the last two weeks were spent learning the practices of archaeological excavation at the Roman fort of Binchester along Hadrian's Wall.
