Housing, Food and Personal Expenses

Lubbock has a lower cost of living than other cities, and housing is not usually a problem for students in the Intensive English Program. The IEP has no regulations or restrictions concerning housing accommodations. You may choose to live either on campus or off campus.

On-campus Residence Halls

The on-campus residence halls at Texas Tech University provide convenient housing and dining accommodations for students. Seventeen residence halls provide a variety of living options. There are four conveniently located dining halls, one food court, and four mini-markets.

Intensive Study Floors, Non-Smoking Floors and Substance-Free Floors are available in various residence halls. Residence hall rooms are furnished with two twin beds, two desks and two dressers. Local telephone service is provided at no additional charge. Two ethernet connections are provided in each room to provide fast access to University computer systems. Students must provide their own computer hardware. Optional services include small refrigerator rentals, coin-operated laundry facilities, and cable television.

Carpenter/Wells Complex offers three bedroom townhouses and four bedroom flats for men and women. Each apartment includes a living room, kitchenette, single bedrooms and two bathrooms.

An extensive menu allows students to select from a wide variety of entrees, breads, soups, vegetables and fruits at every meal.

Students entering the IEP will be sent a residence hall application with their notice of acceptance and I-20 Form. IEP students must apply by mail or fax.

For more detailed information about on-campus housing or to submit an application, visit the Housing and Dining Services website at http://www.housing.ttu.edu.

Off-campus Options

A variety of other living accommodations can usually be found near the University. Two or three students may wish to make arrangements to rent and share expenses for an apartment.

The IEP does not assume responsibility for arranging living accommodations.
