Resources include an eye-tracker Psycholinguistics Lab, the largest language lab of its kind in the world, distance-ed seminar room, and smart classrooms. CMLL is a world-leader in curriculum redesign using technology for more effective language acquisition. Redesign of lower-level Spanish into hybrid courses where grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing are taught on-line via interactive tutorials and in-class time is devoted to oral skills development was done as one of four Spanish programs selected nationally to participate in the National Center for Academic Transformation’s FIPSE funded “Roadmap to Redesign” program. Subsequent redesign efforts, including teaching pronunciation via mimicry using voice recognition software, have been funded by two grants from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Faculty have participated in three NSF grants. Literature and Culture: As mentioned above, most CMLL faculty research focuses on the literature and/or cultures of language countries or areas.
