The German Major
An undergraduate German major consists of thirty hours of course work at the 2000-level and above. A student can begin work at any level, but must complete a minimum of five 4000-level courses (or a minimum of three 4000-level courses and the two summer study abroad courses, GERM 3305 and GERM 3306). Courses are offered in culture, language and literature. Courses taken in English (for example, GERM 3312, GERM 3313) count toward the major, but cannot be counted toward the university foreign language requirement. Moreover, majors must take at least one course on the 3000 level which is taught in German. At least nine hours of upper level classes must be taken in residence at Texas Tech. Usually only students within twelve hours of graduation may enroll in GERM 4000 Independent Study, with the consent of the instructor. Each major is tailored to meet student needs. For more detailed information, consult your Undergraduate Catalogue.
Students interested in a German Minor should contact the undergraduate advisor in German to discuss their studies and to complete a degree plan.
