Academic Programs

The exciting field of engineering encompasses the discovery and application of scientific principles to solve the problems of today and move us into the next generation. Revolutionary discoveries in science, engineering, medicine, mathematics, and the social sciences have broadened the scope of engineering and created a need for a more multidiscipline approach to education. Here at Texas Tech, we are pioneers in encouraging the collaboration that takes place among departments and colleges to provide students with the most diverse education possible.

The College of Engineering offers a broad selection of undergraduate, graduate, and graduate distance programs. We have eight departments offering undergraduate degrees and seven offering graduate degrees. In addition, there are interdepartmental degrees and cooperative degrees between engineering and architecture.

Students from other colleges or students outside their major department may elect to minor in an academic program of the College of Engineering . Each department will specify the required courses and number of hours that constitute a minor from their programs. Information on approved minors, if offered, is available from each department chair. Students who are interested in attending medical school or graduate work related to medical research and engineering should consider the bioengineering minor listed with the department of Chemical Engineering. A chief advantage of using an engineering degree with a premedical plan is that much professional opportunity exists for graduates who do not attend medical school.

The Honors College at Texas Tech University offers students a small college experience within the context of a large research university, providing outstanding academic and extracurricular opportunities for those students who are intellectually curious and capable and who are interested in making the most of their time as undergraduates. The members of the Honors College staff are dedicated to assisting students in achieving their academic, personal, and professional goals.
