Dean's Message
Welcome to the College of Engineering at Texas Tech University. We hope this Web site will help you learn about our college’s many assets from offering a top quality undergraduate educational experience to discovering new knowledge and technical advances that make our region and nation a better place to live and work.
The College of Engineering is one of our nation’s largest engineering colleges and was ranked as one of the top 100 undergraduate programs by U.S. News & World Report. Our students pass the Fundamentals Exam consistently at a rate of 90 percent, nearly 20 percent better than the state average. We are one of only 17 colleges nationally that offers Petroleum Engineering degrees. Our graduates, with their exceptional skills combined with strong work ethic, are heavily recruited by national and international organizations.
Dr. Kishor Mehta has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering in recognition of his innovative research on mitigation of damages from wind storms. Two research centers have international acclaim: the Wind Science and Engineering Center and the Pulsed Power and Power Electronics Center. We have thriving, nationally renowned research programs in medical image processing, semiconductor materials, water remediation, microscale devices, polymer materials, nanoscale material characterization, and intelligent software systems.
We are currently building research and academic programs in bioengineering, with emphases in biomolecular engineering, tissue engineering, human factors, and medical image analysis. Through partnerships with the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center and other colleges on our campus, we are able to apply this expertise to meet the technical needs for improved health care and for advancements in biotechnology.
Thanks to the vision of our state leaders and the generosity of our supporters, the college has a strong fiscal foundation and is building an even stronger future. We are adding 15 new faculty, our endowment has grown by one-third in the last three years (including the recent addition of three new endowed chairs), and our college is undergoing a $10 million renovation project.
Our college takes pride in giving back to the community, including a strong outreach program. The Texas Tech Center for Engineering Outreach works to integrate engineering into K-14 education by developing curriculum, teacher training, and other academic resources designed to help K-14 educators engage their students in learning about engineering and encourage rigorous academic preparation for engineering careers. The Murdough Center for Engineering Professionalism is privileged to house the National Institute for Engineering Ethics and operates major educational programs geared toward professional engineers and engineering students to promote professional ethics. The Murdough Center is a key component in Texas Tech University’s educational enhancement plan, “Doing the Right Thing: A Campus Conversation about Ethics.”
There is much to be proud of at Texas Tech University’s College of Engineering. Explore these pages to learn more about us and then come visit our beautiful campus. The spirit of our people and our progress will stay with you forever.
Sincerely,
Pamela Eibeck, PhD Dean, College of Engineering
