Dr. Javad HashemiDr. Javad Hashemi has been named the Associate Dean of Research for TTU's College of Engineering.  He comes to the dean's office from Mechanical Engineering where he was a professor, director of graduate studies, and graduate advisor.  He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Drexel University (Philadelphia, Pa), as well as his PhD (1983).  He joined Texas Tech in 1991.  His research interests include orthopedic biomechanics, solid mechanics, high-pressure materials, and undergraduate education/online laboratory development.  Welcome, Dr. Hashemi, to this new role in your career.

 

Dr. Alan F. JankowskiThe College of Engineering is pleased to announce that Dr. Alan F. Jankowski has joined TTU as the J. W. Wright Regents' chair and professor of mechanical engineering.  Prior to joining Texas Tech, Jankowski was in the Chemistry and Materials Science department at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory for 20 years. He pursued his graduate studies in the College of Engineering at Rutgers University as a Trustees Fellow for Graduate Study, a Louis Bevier University Fellow, and a Rutgers Graduate Scholar.  He earned an MS (1982), MPh (1983), and PhD (1984) in mechanics and materials science with his thesis on phase transformations and mechanical properties of nanostructured materials.  Please join us at a reception to welcome Dr. Jankowski on Tuesday, February 6, at 4:30 p.m. at the Merket Alumni Center.

 

The 2007 Distinguished Engineers have been named: David Barr ('71 BS mechanical), Baker Hughes, Inc.; Kem Bennett ('70 PhD industrial), TAMU Dwight Look College of Engineering; William Hagood ('69 BS civil), HDR Engineering, Inc.; and Harold Inman ('50 BS petroleum), Rincon Resources, Corp. The recognition ceremony and luncheon is Friday, March 30 at 11:30 a.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. All faculty and staff are invited to join in congratulating these outstanding engineers.

 

Officials with the Texas Land Office and the Lone Star Wind Alliance, a Texas-led coalition of universities, government agencies, and corporate partners, announced this week they will seek an $80 million federally-funded turbine wind research and development facility. Texas Tech University is a member of the coalition. The U.S. Department of Energy has specified that the research project will test turbines with blades 70 meters long.

At their December meeting, TTU's Board of Regents' Facilities Committee approved $10 million for the renovation and expansion of the Livermore Auditorium in the Chemical Engineering building.
