L. D. "Buddy" Sipes, Jr., was born in Big Spring, Texas. He received his B.S. in Petroleum Engineering, with honors, from Texas Tech University in 1957.

Upon graduation, Mr. Sipes began working with Core Laboratories, Inc., with engineering and consulting assignments in Dallas and Midland, Texas, and Paris, France. From 1958 to 1960 and again from 1961 to 1962, he left his duties at Core Laboratories to serve as a U.S. Army First Lieutenant. In 1964, Core Laboratories moved him to Midland to establish a consulting office.

Two years later, Mr. Sipes joined a local petroleum consulting firm, which he and his associates later purchased and named Sipes, Williamson & Associates, Inc. This firm, which has offices in Midland and Houston, Texas, is now known as Williamson Petroleum, Inc., and Mr. Sipes remains a director and owner.

Since 1981, Mr. Sipes has owned Chisos Operating, Inc., an independent oil and gas producer. In 1990, he founded Diversified Remediation, Inc., an environmental cleanup company headquartered in Houston.

He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, for which he has served on the Task Force on Reserve Definitions, as a Distinguished Lecturer, and as Chairman of the Oil and Gas Reserves Committee. In 1966, he was named TSPE Outstanding Young Engineer for the Permian Basin Chapter, and in 1990, TSPE Engineer of the Year for that chapter. A member of the American Association of Engineering Societies, he has been on that organization’s Engineering Affairs Council and Ethics Committee. He has held all major offices for the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers. In addition, he is the author of three papers on petroleum engineering.

Mr. Sipes is active civically and currently serves on the Midland City Council and has been Vice President for the Midland Jaycees. He also is a deacon at First Baptist Church.

Mr. Sipes and his wife, Deloris, have two children, Kevin and Kenda, and four grandchildren.

It is indeed an honor to name L. D. "Buddy" Sipes, Jr., DISTINGUISHED ENGINEER.
