Giving Opportunities

Thanks to our alumni, parents, and friends, the Whitacre College of Engineering has been able to continue our tradition of excellence by providing our students with a quality education and serving our state through quality research. You can make a huge difference to our college by supporting our students through undergraduate scholarships or graduate fellowships; supporting our faculty through endowed chairs or professorships; supporting our academic programs through gifts of facilities or equipment; or supporting our research and outreach programs through annual donations or endowments. Contributions can be in the form of cash, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, planned or deferred gifts, and property. For more information on mechanisms for giving to Texas Tech University, please visit Annual Giving.

The contributions you make help propel our college from an outstanding organization to a national treasure. The college’s fundraising priorities are:

Recruiting and Retention of Graduate Students

Attracting the brightest graduate students to study with our faculty is the key to quality research programs. As the Whitacre College of Engineering expands its research strength into areas such as bioengineering, energy, and advanced electronics, gifts to graduate fellowships and graduate recruiting funds will assist in attracting top graduate students. Consider supporting one annual graduate student fellowship with an endowment of $500,000.

Scholars of Tomorrow

As we compete with other major universities to attract outstanding students, scholarships are often the key to being successful in recruiting these top high school graduates. An annual scholarship of $4,500 in your, or a loved one’s name, to support a freshman can be created with a $100,000 gift endowment.

Creating a Vital Engineering Workforce

The college needs to attract and educate a breadth of talented, hard-working individuals from all backgrounds to meet the demand for engineers. Endowments providing opportunity scholarships will target first- and second- year engineering students to enhance their abilities and likelihood of success in the engineering field.

Endowed Chairs and Professorships

Named chairs and professorships enhance our ability to recruit quality faculty members who are responsible for preparing engineers and technologists with a strong work ethic coupled with outstanding technical skills and knowledge. Endowed chairs can be established with a gift of $1.5 million and professorships at $500,000.

Naming a Department

The most prestigious giving opportunity is to name a Whitacre College of Engineering department after a loved one, an entire family, or an honored associate. This is a very special and unique honor that will perpetuate their memory forever and transform the college and the department’s stature and opportunity for excellence.
