ConocoPhillips Academic Success Bridge Mentors
The purpose of the ConocoPhillips Academic Success Bridge Program is to increase the retention of engineering students while increasing the potential for their academic success. The ConocoPhillips Bridge program is targeting student performance by providing tutoring for math classes while providing opportunities to learn more about studying skills, time management and other academic support services. Peer mentoring opportunities will be offered to help the freshman cope with the demands of college life.
Mentor Information and Responsibilities
Peer mentors will work with a group of incoming freshmen during a week-long summer component, Bridge Connections Experience (August 19-24), by answering academic and non-academic questions. During the fall 2012 semester, peer mentors will be required to tutor ConocoPhillips Bridge participants and provide mentoring on nonacademic issues. The mentoring provided during the school year will ensure the ConocoPhillips Bridge participants are academically successful in the Whitacre College of Engineering.
Benefits
Peer mentors will receive $8.50/hour for a maximum of 39 hours for the work completed during the Bridge Mentor Training Course (August 15-17) and the Bridge Connections Experience (August 19-24). During the 2012-2013 school year, mentors will be paid $8.50/hour up to 20 hours per week to tutor and mentor the ConocoPhillips Bridge participants. Space will be made available to perform the academic tutoring.
