Texas Tech University

Academics

Students participating in a Texas Tech faculty-led program will register and enroll for classes on Raiderlink as they would at the TTU campus in Lubbock. These credits will not be transfer credits, as they are Texas Tech classes. The classes will appear on DegreeWorks and will be reflected on students' GPAs just as they would at the TTU campus in Lubbock. Students participating in affiliate and reciprocal exchange programs should read the following information and be familiar with it. The following information can also be found in the TTU Study Abroad application.

Enrollment and Credit for Classes

Students planning to study abroad have the responsibility to discuss their plans with their academic advisor to determine which courses will meet their degree plan. The student's Study Abroad Advisor will help complete the credit pre-approval form (CPF).
Students may not enroll in courses abroad which have not been pre-approved, and may be withdrawn from the university if they take courses which have not been approved by TTU.

Availability of courses at the host institution is determined by the host institution. Texas Tech University and the Study Abroad Office cannot ensure the availability of classes at international institutions.

Students must email their Study Abroad Advisor upon arrival with the course numbers and names to verify they are enrolled in the classes that were pre-approved. Any changes may affect the credit received for the courses taken abroad. If a student takes a
course at their host institution that changes the amount of credit hours received at TTU, the student is responsible for the adjustment in tuition and fees. For example, if a student is only registered in 12 hours of placeholder while abroad, takes a course
that is worth more hours than expected (4 vs. 3), the student will need to pay for the additional tuition and fees.

Students participating in language studies will be required to take a placement test upon arrival at their study abroad destination. Placement in the appropriate level that has been pre-approved by the department is critical. Texas Tech credit cannot be awarded for course work that duplicates what a student has already received credit for at Texas Tech University. Students who are not placed in the appropriate level should contact their Study Abroad Advisor IMMEDIATELY to find out how their classes abroad will affect the credit they will receive at Texas Tech.

Students should bring back the textbooks, syllabi, class notes, special projects, tests, and papers written for coursework abroad. For Studio Art classes this may include paintings, ceramics, pictures, or jewelry.

Students must be enrolled full-time (twelve hours) while studying abroad for a semester. Students studying abroad in the summer must be enrolled for a minimum of three hours. Students applying for Financial Aid for the summer must be enrolled in a total of 6 hours for the entire summer.

Students can utilize the Transfer Equivalency Search Database to do research on their classes.

How Grades are Factored into GPA Upon Return

Grades received for participation in affiliate programs ARE NOT factored into the student's Texas Tech GPA, but ARE a part of the student's overall GPA. The classes appear on the student's transcript as transfer credit. There is NO pass/fail in study abroad. All coursework attempted will be reflected on the student's TTU transcript.

Grades received for participation in reciprocal exchange programs ARE factored into the student's Texas Tech GPA. The classes appear on the student's transcript as Texas Tech credit. There is NO pass/fail in study abroad. All coursework attempted will be reflected on the student's TTU transcript.

Transcripts

Before leaving the study abroad program, students must request that an official transcript be sent to:

Credit Coordinator - Study Abroad
Office of International Affairs
601 Indiana Ave.
Texas Tech University
Lubbock, TX 79409-5004

Under no circumstances will a hand-carried or student copy of a transcript be accepted. The Study Abroad office cannot begin the process for students to receive Texas Tech credit until the official transcript has been received by the Credit Coordinator in the Study Abroad office. Transcripts sent to any other office at Texas Tech will delay the credit process. Students who do not request that a transcript from the study abroad institution be sent to the TTU Study Abroad Credit Coordinator and/or do not meet with the appropriate department after returning from studying abroad will have a Registration and Transcript hold placed on their TTU account.
