Interested in studying at a highly–ranked university that can help you build the bridge between classroom theory and practical application? That’s what we do at the Whitacre College of Engineering. According to US News and World Report, four programs in our Industrial, Mechanical, and Computer Engineering Departments ranked in the top 100 out of 1,100 graduate programs in the United States. In addition, our Petroleum Engineering program is ranked 10th in the nation. We also have what may be the world’s only Ph.D. in Wind Science and Engineering. Our alumni include Edward E. Whitacre Jr., the current CEO of General Motors as well as several other Fortune 500 CEOs like Blake Ausberger, the CEO and President of the Harman Professional Group and President of Harman International Industries. Practical Research

Texas Tech has been designated as the first ever Systems Engineering Research Center for the Department of Defense, and our Computer Science department makes significant contributions to NASA programs. Our college is involved in eight different Research Centers with studies ranging from nanotechnologies to water resources and wind power, and there are dozens of supported Graduate Research Specializations for our graduate students. As you can see, our students gain not only a strong theoretical background, but the ability to apply that knowledge and improve the world.

World–Wide Impact

We host an extremely diverse student body with undergraduate and graduate students from over 76 countries. Our alumni have gone on to do great things here in the US and abroad. Notably, Chi–Ming Chang, co–founder and President of Ardentec Corporation, a semiconductor testing company headquartered in Taiwan, was recently recognized as a Distinguished Engineer at the Whitacre College of Engineering.
