The October 2011 Mass Communications Career Fair had a stronger showing than the previous year, allowing students to expand their career opportunities.

The Mass Communications Career Fair, held annually at the Frazier Alumni Pavilion, attracts businesses from around the state of Texas looking for young employees. Lauren Rozelle, an assistant to Career Fair coordinator Aleesa Ross, said this year’s turnout was better than expected.

“We actually doubled our student attendance,” Rozelle said. “I think that’s because Aleesa did such a great job of promoting the event and getting businesses to come.”

This year’s attendees included public relations firms TracyLocke and Fleishman-Hillard, as well as Southwest Airlines and pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly, among others. In all, 31 companies attended the event.

Luke Stone, a recruiter for Southwest and a Texas Tech graduate himself, said students can benefit immensely from attending the Career Fair. Stone said students have a chance to meet recruiters face-to-face and establish connections that could prove valuable in the future.

Andrew Byrne, a graduate student from Carrollton, Texas, said the Career Fair was a good experience for him.

“It’s a great way to expand your network,” he said. “It’s the kind of thing you can’t do in a classroom. Every student should go to career fairs like this one.”

The Mass Communications Career Fair is available to all students. For more information on next year’s Career Fair, contact Aleesa Ross at aleesa.ross@ttu.edu.
