Electronic Media & Communications

My name is Jenabeth Gunter and I am a senior Electronic Media & Communications major minoring in Film and Media Studies. I am the Vice President of Dean's Student Council in the College of Media and Communication.

Starting at a young age I have always been interested in anything media related. I grew up on a farm near a small, West Texas town called Olton, Texas. I enjoy photography, videography, sound recording and digital media. With all of these interests combined, studying Electronic Media and Communications was the greatest option for me to do what I love. I want to create visual/audio content that goes out for the world to see. I am currently a radio DJ and morning talk show host on KTXT 88.1 FM Lubbock, and a weekly news anchor on Media and Communication Television. Both of these organizations are affiliated with the College of Median and Communication.

I am involved in a variety of organizations at Texas Tech and am a leader is most of them. I am the President of Tech Association of Student Electronic Media, Vice President of Golden Key International Honour Society, Chaplain Committee Member in Sigma Phi Lambda, Campus/Community Missions Leader in Ninethirty University Ministry, and a member of National Residence Hall Honorary and National Society of Collegiate Scholars. On the side I manage a freelance photography business and lead a weekly 9th grade girl bible study for the First Baptist Church Lubbock Youth Ministry.

I work as the Community Advisor for the Media and Communication Learning Community (MCLC). Through this position I oversee 49 residents as a resident assistant in the Murdough residence hall, organize programs pertaining to the educational benefit of the MCLC, create content for the MCLC social media, and oversee management of student safety, residence hall policies and facility maintenance.

During the summer of 2013 I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad in Seville, Spain. This experience encouraged my desire to immerse in new cultures. It also proved to me just how much media impacts the entire world through connectivity. During the summer of 2014 I interned as a writer and photographer at Word Publications. I was able to write articles and publish photographs in the Texas Tech Word magazine and other publications as well as create social media and video content.

I plan to attend graduate school at Texas Tech to receive my Master of Arts in Media and Communication. I believe that media connects the world around us in profound ways, and it is my desire to play an important role in it. It is my goal to someday create media that goes out to a mass audience so I can impact what they see and hear in positive ways.
