My name is Jamie Mathis and I am from Santa Barbara, California but grew up in Austin, Texas. I am an Advertising major minoring in General Business. I also have hopes in continuing my education further through grad school next year at Texas Tech. I have always had a desire to connect with other people in any way possible, and studying media and communication has helped me fuel this want. Mass communication careers have always been in my family and because of this, I am incredibly passionate with my areas of study.
I am currently involved in the Alpha Phi sorority at Texas Tech as Director of Internal Programming, a member of multiple philanthropy committees within Alpha Phi, I play intramural sports, and I am big sis mentor. I have also been a member in the Greek leadership program and a Greek Rho Gamma counselor. Along with Greek organizations, I am a member of multiple honor societies, many organizations within the College of Media & Communication, a member in organizations within the business school, and I volunteer regularly in the community of Lubbock.
I believe communication is key to how our world operates, so as an active member, former secretary, and now vice president of the Dean’s Student Council, I hope to communicate how important careers in media and communication are. Whether it is in advertising or any other mass communication field, I think all media and communication majors contribute to the development and future of our world’s connectivity. I wish to see others realize this, and my goal is to make the Dean's Council a profound leader in this cause.
