Research: Wirtz's primary research interest focuses on the intersection of strategic communication campaigns and interpersonal communication. His most recent research investigates the conditions under which topic-related conversations prime conversational participants and influence how they respond to and evaluate mass media messages.
Experience:Wirtz has more than 10 years of professional experience in fund-raising, donor relations and nonprofit public relations. He has also worked as a copy editor at a daily newspaper. Recently, he as served as a strategic planning and communication consultant for several companies and nonprofit organizations in the upper Midwest.
Leadership / awards: Wirtz was co-recipient with Susanne M. Jones (University of Minnesota) of the 2008 Franklin H. Knower article of the year award from the Interpersonal Communication Division of the National Communication Association. He is also a member of Kappa Tau Alpha, the national scholastic honor society for journalism and mass communication.
