The Texas Tech College of Education recently received the Agency/Institution/Corporate Award for 2006 by the National Association for Multicultural Education.
The College of Education is the first college to receive this reward, which was accepted by Dean Sheryl L. Santos and Aretha Marbley, associate professor of education, in Phoenix last month during the 16th Annual NAME Conference.
Awards are given by the organization to national and international groups, individuals and institutions that make outstanding contributions toward multicultural education, educational equity and social justice.
"It is extremely gratifying to learn that colleagues around the USA recognize the commitment and enthusiasm with which the College of Education community at Texas Tech University has embraced educational excellence for all students," Santos says.
"I am very proud of the faculty, staff, administrators and students in the College of Education. More importantly, this national award raises the banner of Texas Tech University and brings well-deserved recognition for the vision and direction that President Jon Whitmore and Provost Bill Marcy have set for us," she says.
Santos says this reward emphasizes Texas Tech's collaboration with multiple schools and programs.
"It also speaks volumes of our excellent partnerships and collaborative efforts within Texas Tech University and with the local schools, South Plains College, and Region 17 Education Service Center, to name but a few," she says.
