Series of Receptions Planned for New Chancellor
Hance became chancellor on Dec. 1. A series of receptions is planned around the region where Texas Tech University and/or Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center have campuses. The receptions will allow Hance to share his vision for both universities and to meet faculty, staff, students and community members.
Hance, a Texas Tech graduate, will focus on several key areas. At the Health Sciences Center, he is expected to establish a search committee for a new president later this month. He also will concentrate on securing legislative funding for the four-year medical school in El Paso.
Fundraising is another major part of the chancellor’s job duties. He will work to raise funds for both universities for scholarships, faculty endowments and capital improvements. He also will work closely with the State Legislature, Congress and private donors to increase research funding at both Texas Tech and the Health Sciences Center.
Hance, a native of Dimmitt, took office Dec. 1. He is the third chancellor of the Texas Tech University System. A former U.S. Congressman, Texas State Senator and Railroad Commission chairman, Hance was an attorney with the firm of Hance Scarborough Wright Woodward & Weisbart before taking the chancellor’s position.
