About Phi Beta Kappa

Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest academic honor society, was established in 1776 at the College of William and Mary. Its mission is to champion education in the liberal arts and sciences, to recognize academic excellence, and to foster freedom of thought and expression.

The Society awards new chapters once every three years. Texas Tech University is one of only six new chapters nationwide to be created in this triennium and is one of only three public universities in the state of Texas granted the right to host chapters.
