Rawls College of Business Recognizes Alumni
This year’s honorees are John W. Carpenter III, Jack R. Hamilton and J. Frank Miller.

Texas Tech University’s Rawls College of Business hosted their 2007 Alumni Recognition Awards on April 12 at the Lubbock Country Club, honoring alumni John W. Carpenter III, Jack R. Hamilton and J. Frank Miller.
“This year’s recipients represent the talent and integrity the Rawls College strives to instill in all of our students,” says Dean Allen T. McInnes. “Words can’t describe how honored we are to recognize and honor these individuals.”
John W. Carpenter III
Carpenter, a 1974 Texas Tech graduate, has served as the chief executive officer of Southland Financial Corporation. Carpenter received his bachelors of business administration in finance from Texas Tech and MBA from the University of Texas at Austin in 1977.
In 1989, he and J. Frank Miller co-founded the Jefferson Properties Inc., a company that develops, constructs and manages multi-family properties.
Carpenter’s civic duties include currently serving as the director of the West Dallas Community School, Highland Park Independent School District Education Foundation and a member of the McCombs School of Business Advisory Council at UT. Presently, Carpenter is the chairman and CEO of Lachlan Alliance, a development and investment company.
Jack R. Hamilton
Hamilton received his degree in finance in 1968 from Texas Tech. He has served as the vice president and regional manager for Citigroup Investment Management Inc. in Houston. Hamilton is a co-founder of Davis Hamilton Jackson & Associates, an asset management firm that manages quality growth equity, quality fixed income and balanced strategies.
Hamilton is a member of the Texas Prepaid Higher Education Tuition Board and has been an active representative on boards such as the Houston Society of Financial Analysts, Florida Public Pension Trustees Associations and many others. Hamilton is a founding member of the Rawls College of Business Advisory Council and continues to support the business college.
J. Frank Miller
Miller received his degree from Texas Tech in 1974. Miller’s resume includes three decades of experience in the real estate industry. He began his career at the Southland Life Insurance. From there, he has held such positions as serving as the president of Southland Financial residential development and management subsidiary and as executive vice president of Southland Financial.
In 1997, Multifamily Executive named Miller as its “Builder of the Year” for his accomplishments within JPI. With Miller’s guidance, JPI is one of the nation’s leading luxury apartment companies and has been named by Builder as one of the top five apartment builders in the nation. JPI was ranked no. 1 in 2003 and 2004.
Miller has served on community boards such as the Dallas Chamber of Commerce, Hope Cottage, Dallas Citizen’s Council, and many more. Currently, Miller serves as Vice Chairmen to the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents.
