A Look Inside College Night

Written by Kristi Flake

You’re probably familiar with the average college night event at your local high school – the gym or cafeteria is lined with tables displaying college banners and brochures, while enthusiastic college recruiters answer questions and busy families wonder how they will sort through the sea of information available to prospective university students. But there’s more to a college night than meets the eye.

While some high schools host their own college fairs, most college fair programs in Texas are organized in conjunction with the Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (TACRAO).  Each year, from September to January, TACRAO sponsors hundreds of college fairs across the state. Admissions counselors attend these programs to promote their institutions and build relationships with prospective students and their families.

As a member of TACRAO, the Office of Admissions looks forward to representing Texas Tech at these events.  Our recruiters stay on the road for several weeks each year, attending as many TACRAO programs as possible. Texas Tech’s presence at these events is vital as the competition for college-bound students continues to increase.

Here’s a quick reference chart to let you know when Texas Tech will be at TACRAO programs in your area:

Date City/Area
Sept. 10-14 & 17-21 Dallas
Sept. 24-28 Coastal Bend
Panhandle
Oct. 1-5 Central Texas
Rio Grande Valley
West Texas
Oct. 8-12 San Antonio
Oct. 22-26 & Oct. 29 – Nov. 2 Houston

Alumni can play an important role in TACRAO events. As an alumni volunteer, you can work alongside an admissions counselor and help promote Texas Tech to the next generation of Red Raiders.

We invite you to learn more about opportunities to volunteer at a TACRAO program near you. Your involvement, no matter how great or small, will have a tremendous impact on the lives of our prospective students.

You may be the reason a student chooses Texas Tech!
