The Texas Tech University flag proudly flies from the university’s 2007 official ornament.

This is the 11th in a series of ornaments that began in 1997. Proceeds from the ornament sales support special projects to benefit Texas Tech students. Last year’s sales provide more than $20,000 for grants to student organizations.

All academic locations of Texas Tech University fly the flag that features the seal of the university against a field of scarlet and black. Texas Tech students participating in study abroad programs have presented the Texas Tech flag to host universities around the world and Texas Tech Alumni chapters in countries from India to Taiwan, from Turkey to Brazil display the flag.

A new ornament is designed each year and depicts something unique to Texas Tech. Past designs have featured the Masked Rider, the Double T and the administration building bell tower. The ornaments are sold year-round.

The 2007 ornament, which is finished in 24-carat gold, is the fourth in the Texas Tech ornament collection designed by Nelda Laney. Laney graduated from Texas Tech in 1965. She met her husband, former Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives Pete Laney, while they were students at Texas Tech and all three of their children have graduated from the university.
