Texas Bar Foundation Recognizes School of Law
Brian Shannon and Texas Tech Law Review named best of 2007 in Texas.

Professors from the School of Law have won the Bar Foundation award three of the past six years. This is Brian Shannon's second time to be recognized, he also won the award in 2002.
Thornton Professor of Law Brian Shannon’s article on reforming the Texas insanity defense was selected as the Texas Bar Foundation’s Outstanding Law Review Article for 2007. The article was published in the Texas Tech Law Review.
The Bar Foundation Award is the preeminent award for legal scholarship and is presented annually to designate the most important and best written legal article published in Texas. The Texas Tech Law Review will be listed as the 2008 winner.
In addition to recognizing Shannon’s efforts, the Texas Bar Foundation will donate $1,000 to the law school’s scholarship fund.
According to Walter Huffman, dean of the school of law, this is the third time in less than a decade for the award to go to Texas Tech faculty; Shannon won in 2002 and Larry Spain won in 2005.
“A Texas Tech University School of Law professor has won the most important award for legal scholarship in Texas three of the last six years,” said Huffman.
The School of Law’s relatively young Law Review is establishing itself as one of the nation’s premier forums for legal scholarship.
“This award, coupled with last year’s highly acclaimed Criminal Law Symposium issue, is clear indication that our publication is becoming one of the nation’s important forums for legal scholarship," said Huffman.
Founded in 1970, the Texas Tech Law Review is published quarterly.
