College of Business Recognizes Three Notable Alumni

Alumni honored for significant contributions to society and career accomplishments.

The Rawls College of Business honored three distinguished alumni at a recent alumni recognition awards dinner. The award recognizes some of the college’s most outstanding alumni for significant contributions to society and for their career accomplishments.

"The Rawls College of Business Distinguished Alumni Award is given to graduates who have not only excelled in their profession and distinguished themselves in the business community, but have gone above and beyond the call of duty in service to their alma mater," said Allen McInnes, Dean of Rawls College of Business.

"This year’s honorees are strongly committed to Texas Tech University and are most deserving of this prestigious recognition."

2008 Distinguished Alumni

G. Randall Andrews, founder and president of GRACO Real Estate Development Inc., is a 1977 accounting graduate. Andrews has constructed more than 2.5 million square feet of shopping centers, office buildings and net-leased properties in Texas and Colorado. In addition to development, Andrews is involved in the ranching and cattle business.

Ben M. Bruckner Jr., chairman of the board of Bruckner Truck Sales Inc., graduated in 1953 with a degree in marketing. His current business includes Mack, Volvo and GMC truck distributorships with stores in Amarillo, Lubbock, Fort Worth, Odessa, Abilene, Wichita Falls and Dallas. He also has opened stores in New Mexico and Oklahoma.

L. Frederick "Rick" Francis earned his bachelor’s degree in finance in 1978. Francis was appointed to the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents in 2003 and was reappointed to serve a second term in 2007. He served as chairman of the Board of Regents from Jan. 1, 2005 to May 11, 2007. Francis is chairman of Bank of the West - El Paso, along with Francis Properties and Francis Holdings.

The Jerry S. Rawls College of Business Administration is the first named college on campus after receiving a record $25 million gift from alumnus Jerry S. Rawls.

With a total student enrollment of just under 5,000, and an undergraduate population of 4,663 in 2001-02, the college is ranked the tenth largest undergraduate program among U.S. business schools.

The college has five areas of study–Accounting, Finance, Information Systems and Quantitative Sciences, Management, and Marketing – in addition to dual programs in conjunction with architecture, agriculture, foreign languages, law, medicine, and environmental toxicology.
