Dream Bikes Give Students a Boost
Lowrider project gives lessons in art, science and engineering.
Graduate students and faculty from the School of Art and College of Engineering team up with the T-STEM (Texas-Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Center to fulfill dreams and spark interests in local middle schoolers.
The groups contribute to the curriculum of 48 Atkins Middle School students by helping them assemble and redesign lowrider bikes. The project combined artistic and scientific methods that help students with their critical thinking processes – a boost that will come in handy for standardized testing.
Students were able to showcase their new "rides" at the Lowrider/Dream Bike Parade on the Texas Tech campus.
