Texas Tech Accepts Konica Minolta Gator Bowl Invitation
Red Raiders will face the No. 20/21 Virginia Cavaliers in Jacksonville on New Year’s Day.
Texas Tech makes its fourth appearance at the Gator Bowl, dating back to the 1954 matchup with Auburn. The Red Raiders, coming off of a 10-1 regular season, capped the year with a 35-13 win over the Tigers on New Year’s Day. Texas Tech is 2-1 all-time in the Gator Bowl with the program’s second win coming against Tennessee, 28-19, in 1973.
Georgia Tech handed Texas Tech its only loss in Jacksonville, 31-21, in 1965. Tech’s first Gator Bowl appearance also saw the dawning of one of the more storied traditions in college football – the first appearance of the Masked Rider. [more]

Donald Judd: Artist, Architect?
New book by associate professor and architect Urs Peter Flueckiger makes case for artist’s architectural genius in Marfa.
Each year thousands of art pilgrims brave long travel and scant accommodations to admire the Spartan works of Donald Judd in Marfa, Texas. Few, if any, pay homage to the buildings that house those pieces.

In a new book published by Birkhäuser, architect and Texas Tech University associate professor Urs Peter Flueckiger establishes how these structures, deliberately renovated by Judd, play an integral role in fulfilling the artist’s vision of creating an artistic microcosm for himself and collaborators in the lonely West Texas community.
