Final Fall 2006 Enrollment

Texas Tech’s final fall 2006 enrollment remains even, but students are taking more credit hours than last year.

Final enrollment for Texas Tech University for the fall 2006 semester is 27,996. Enrollment for the fall 2005 semester was 28,001. Enrollment is considered final on the 20th day of class, which was Sep. 25.

The number of semester credit hours taken by students this fall stands at 360,877, up from 357,931. The increase in credit hours reflects the university’s dedication to helping students graduate in a more timely fashion. Through the Graduate on Time contract, entering freshman students are guaranteed that courses will be available in the sequence they need for them to graduate in the time prescribed if students complete at least 30 hours of course work each calendar year.

Texas Tech continues to graduate record numbers of students. Last year, 5,924 students received degrees. In 2002-2003, 4,836 undergraduate and graduate degrees were awarded. In 2003-2004, 5,347 degrees were awarded and in 2004-2005, 5,861 degrees were awarded.

Other numbers of interest include:

  • Freshman enrollment stands at 3,922 up from 3,801 last year
  • Graduate School enrollment is at a record 4,443 students up from 4,293
  • Law School enrollment is 702, as compared to 706 for fall 2005

Diversity of the fall 2005 freshman class shows steady gains with American Indian enrollment up 7 to 31 students; Asian enrollment is up 9 to 115 students; African American enrollment is up 22 to 155 students and Hispanic enrollment is up 64 to 462.
