Becoming a Red Raider
From spirit and traditions to campus tours, there are opportunities for prospective students to see for themselves that "from here, it's possible."
By Jamie Eveler
Prospective students take a walking tour and enjoy our Spanish Renaissance-inspired architecture.
Each year, the Visitors Center, in conjunction with the Office of Admissions, hosts special events for prospective and admitted students. These one-day visits include University Day, Football Fridays, Admitted Student Days and Transfer Visit Days. Each event provides an in-depth look at what Texas Tech University offers new students.
University Day features academic information sessions, campus and residence hall tours, student service and organization fairs and an introduction to Texas Tech’s spirit and traditions. Specially designed admissions presentations, highlighting information about admissions, scholarships and application deadlines, are available for first-time freshmen and transfer students.
Football Fridays provide a great opportunity to visit campus and experience the excitement of pre-game activities. Future students are invited to spend a day on campus before a home conference football game. In addition to regular campus tours and the academic/student services information fair, campus visitors will be able to tour the United Spirit Arena, Student Recreation Center and Jones AT&T Stadium.
Admitted Student Days are designed to provide important information for newly admitted Red Raiders, including early registration for New Student Orientation. This event introduces students to the campus, including on-campus housing options and academic departments.
Transfer Visit Days are tailored to prospective transfer students, and include financial aid information, a transfer student panel and academic advising sessions. Students who participate in this event are offered a “quick admit” option. This means, students who provide all necessary documents for the term for which they have applied, are guaranteed an admissions decision on or before the day of their visit.
In addition to scheduled dates, the Visitors Center offers student-guided walking tours of the campus Monday through Friday at 10 am and 2 pm. Tours last about an hour, after which visitors can arrange to meet with representatives from academic departments or an admissions representative. On most Saturdays, tours are offered at 10 am, but do not include the option of academic or admissions appointments.
