Dan Spencer and Trent Petrie are the new assistent coaches for Texas Tech's baseball team.

Spencer, who helped lead Oregon State to back-to-back NCAA championships, will return to the Red Raider family after playing infield for Texas Tech from 1985 to 1987.  He has coached at Oregon State for the past 14 years.  Spencer’s coaching and recruiting at Oregon State showed superiority, having three pitchers and one catcher named to All-American Teams as well as seven players drafted in the top 10 rounds of the MLB Draft.  His responsibilities at Texas Tech will include pitching/catching coaching duties and recruiting.

Trent Petrie, will join the Texas Tech Baseball Team from the University of New Mexico where he was an assistant coach for two years and the director of Baseball Operations at Oklahoma State the two years prior.  Petrie played one year of baseball at Texas Tech in 1992 and finished his baseball career while earning a degree at Lubbock Christian University. Petrie went on to earn his master’s degree at Wayland Baptist University.  He will be in charge of coaching the infield and recruiting.

While attending Texas Tech, Spencer played one year under Larry Hays, mostly at third base.  Spencer and Petrie will begin assisting along with current assistant coaches Daren Hays and Lance Brown.
