Official Emergency Communication System Launched

Notification system enables campus leaders to send emergency messages to up to four phone numbers.

Written by Monica Higgins

Notification system enables campus leaders to send emergency messages to up to four phone numbers.

Texas Tech University has implemented an Emergency Alert Notification System to inform current students, faculty and staff of important alerts and emergency response information.

President Jon Whitmore emphasized that the system is the official campus emergency communications system and would only be used in critical situations. He assured that no spam, advertising or other types of communication would be sent via this system.

“It’s crucial that we are able to notify students immediately in emergency situations because up-to-date communication helps minimize the spread of misinformation, restore order and provide direction,” Whitmore said.

A test of the system is scheduled for Oct. 10 at 10 a.m.

All faculty, students and staff who have not already registered, go to www.ttu.edu/emergency and click on the Sign up for Emergency Alerts link. Contact information is secure and will not be made available to any other service.

The new system enables campus leaders to send voice messages to up to four phone numbers, one of which can be designated as text-enabled.

The emergency alert notification system is a not a personal emergency contact listing to notify family or significant others if students, faculty or staff become ill or injured on or off campus.
